Suttonpark Tom Cruise

This scheme is the largest dog-training scheme in the UK. Its aim is to promote responsible dog ownership and in turn, enhance our relationship with our pets and to make the community aware of the benefits associated with dog ownership.

Since its launch in 1992 the scheme has become an outstanding success with over 30,000 dogs having successfully passed the tests which are administered through 950 training organisations

The scheme brings together simple exercises such as basic dog training, grooming, exercise, diet, cleaning up after your dog and general healthcare. All dogs are elegible for Good Citizen training, be they pedigree or cross-bred, young or old.

We have two Suttonpark dogs George 'Suttonpark Jupiter' who is now ten years old and Travis 'Suttonpark Tom Cruise' who is four years old .

We attend Solihull Dog Training Club which won the Kennel Club best dog training club, two years ago. Both dogs have achieved Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. Travis got all his awards in his first year at the club! George achieved bronze and silver in his first year but only got his gold two years ago, mainly because he does not like me out of his sight, which is one of the exercises. George was presented with the club clown trophy in 2000 which is the first and only time it has been awarded! He plays to the crowds and laps up the attention, he also begs spontaneously which is something we have never taught him to do. George has been at Crufts in demonstration teams for the Silver in 2003/5, Safe and Sound 2004 and was one of the dogs in the background for 'Friends for Life 2006'

This years Crufts was for Travis, he auditioned for the Gold Good Citizen Dog Scheme team and was selected from fifty dogs, which in itself is an honour, like George he performed superbly and had lots of comments on his good looks and behaviour.

The competition to get in the Good Citizen team at Crufts is getting harder each year but we are working towards this and we hope to be there next year with Travis.
